When the Jersey Mike’s Subs shop opened on Nov. 7, 2018, at the Shoppes at Lorton Valley, at 8971 Ox Road, Lorton, the owners wanted to do something special for the community. In five days, owners Tracey Jennings and her husband Maurice mailed out and hand-delivered some 10,000 coupons to local businesses, schools and hospitals.

The coupons said that if you donated $3, you would get a free sub. The community responded overwhelmingly by turning in 2,493 tickets. In response, the Jennings donated a check for $2,300 to the Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC), a charity at 9518 Richmond Highway in Lorton that serves low-income families and seniors of Lorton, Newington, and Fort Belvoir.

“It was amazing,” said Tracey Jennings. “The community really received us well. The community really welcomed us and enjoyed the subs and the donation to LCAC because most of the people in the area already donate to them as well.”

She continued: “We know the important work that they do and we see the need with people working two and three jobs just to make ends meet – so it feels really great.”
