Fatal Crashes in Lorton and Clifton

Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Lorton

A man has died as a result of injuries from a crash that occurred Tuesday morning, Feb. 11, around 1:13 a.m. Detectives from Crash Reconstruction Unit have preliminarily determined that the man was crossing Richmond Highway near the intersection of Giles Run Road. The driver of a 2012 Hyundai Elantra was traveling northbound on Richmond Highway in the rain and struck the man who was not in a crosswalk. The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with detectives. The man was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries. Preliminarily, alcohol does not appear to be a factor for the driver and speed is still under investigation. Detectives have not yet determined if alcohol was a factor for the pedestrian.

The victim has been identified as Patrick Crowley, 58.

Fatal Crash in Clifton Involving Three Cars

A man has died as a result of injuries from a crash that occurred Saturday morning, Feb. 8, around 1:17 a.m. in Clifton near the intersection of Fairfax County Parkway and Popes Head Road. Detectives from Crash Reconstruction Unit have preliminarily determined that a Jeep Wrangler, operated by Earl Wilkins Jr., 52, of Gainesville, was traveling southbound on Fairfax County Parkway. Wilkins drove into northbound traffic and crashed into a Honda Civic. Wilkins then exited his vehicle and was standing in the roadway when a third vehicle, also traveling northbound, struck the Honda which then hit Wilkins. Wilkins was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries. The driver of the Honda was also taken to a hospital with injuries considered life threatening. The driver of the third vehicle, a Hyundai Sonata, remained on-scene and was treated for minor injuries. Detectives are continuing to investigate whether speed, alcohol or drugs were factors.

Wilkins was considered a pedestrian upon exiting his car while on the roadway. This is the 4th pedestrian fatality in the county to date in 2020.
