Kenny (center) and Nancy (right) Hegland accept the Family Volunteer award on behalf of the Hegland Family. The Heglands volunteer at United Community Ministries in the Mount Vernon area of Alexandria, giving more than 2,400 hours together in 2015. They developed and help operate a rear dock management system to help better process the thousands of pounds of food going into the UCM food pantry. UCM Executive Director Nichelle Mitchem said, “They are extremely generous with time and resources,” in a statement. “No job is too great or small for Nancy and Kenny.”
