The wins have just kept on coming over the first half of the season for the Lake Braddock Secondary baseball team, which is competing locally in Northern Virginia over this week's spring break week.

Regardless if one viewed the glass as half full or half empty, the Lake Braddock baseball team suffered its first loss of the season on April 3 and head coach Jody Rutherford was less than enthused with the Bruins’ effort.

First elected in 2002, Robert F. Lederer, the five-term mayor of Fairfax City, announced in December that he will not run for another two-year term, and will retire in June. R. Scott Silverthorne, a current city councilman and Gerald T. "Jerry" O’Dell are vying for the seat. The Connection contacted O’Dell repeatedly, through email and phone, and he did not respond to questions. Here are Silverthorne’s responses:

Celebrating Japanese Art And Culture at the Workhouse Arts Center
The Workhouse Arts Center will present Japanese Art and Culture Day at the Workhouse, Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Gift of Trees, National Cherry Blossom Festival. On Saturday, April 21 from 11:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., visitors to the Workhouse Arts Center will find an array of interesting, educational, entertaining, and free activities celebrating the art and culture, both ancient and modern, of Japan. A ceremonial planting of cherry trees will kick-off the event at 11:30 a.m. The trees have been provided by the Merrifield Garden Center.
LCAC Recognizes Local School Teacher with Founder’s Award
Longtime Lorton resident and Fairfax County school teacher, Barbara Rizer, was recognized by the Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC) for her dedication to helping individuals and families in southeast Fairfax County through her volunteer efforts with LCAC. On March 10 at LCAC’s annual fundraising gala, the LCAC Board of Directors presented Rizer with the organization’s inaugural Founder’s Award for her commitment and passion for fulfilling LCAC’s mission of enhancing the quality of life in the community through individual and family services, community programs, and partnerships with other organizations.
Lehman H. Young, Sr. 1916-2012
Community remembers civic leader, WWII pilot and business owner.
It was 1958, during one of the worst blizzards to hit Northern Virginia, and Deborah Young, just five years old, remembers her father, Lehman, bundling her up and sitting her on the seat of their old blue 1951 Ford, between him and her mother, Marie.
Fairfax Woman Runs Half Marathon

Fairfax resident Mary McLaughlin ran the Rock’n’Roll USA Half Marathon with two goals in mind – to raise as much money as she could for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and to honor her brother’s memory. And on March 17 in Washington, D.C., she did both.
