The Clifton Fire Department led lawnmowers, golf-carts, two pick-up trucks and an army of patriotically decorated bicycles down Main Street for the town’s Independence Day Parade on Friday, July 4 in Clifton.
Clifton Film Fest Coming July 19

For anyone interested in checking out some local creative talent, consider the upcoming Clifton Film Fest, which will feature work from filmmakers around the area. The Clifton Film Fest is Saturday, July 19, and a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the event is underway until July 4. Funds raised from the campaign cover t-shirts and the VIP area for the filmmakers, as well as a red carpet area where they get interviewed.

A Broadway-style, musical adventure is on tap in Encore Theatrical Arts Project’s new show, "The World at Your Feet." It’ll be presented Saturday, June 14, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, June 15, at 3 and 6 p.m., at NOVA’s Ernst Community Cultural Center, 8333 Little River Turnpike in Annandale. Tickets are $22, adults; $18, students and senior citizens, at www.encore-tap.org.
Fun Opportunities at Meadowood
Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area, popular for horseback riding, birding and hiking, contains a variety of terrains and vegetation types, including gently sloping open meadows, mature hardwood forests along steep slopes and floodplains, and riparian areas, freshwater ponds and streams.
Animal Shelter Grand Opening
The Fairfax County Animal Shelter will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house this Saturday, May 17, to celebrate the official completion of the shelter’s renovation and expansion. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. and will include behind-the-scenes tours, face-painting and hands-on interaction with rabbits, guinea pigs and small reptiles. The shelter’s at 4500 West Ox Road and is open Tuesday through Friday, noon to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

17th Annual Clifton Caboose Twilight Run is May 17.
Gary Anderson, chairman of the Clifton Caboose Twilight Run, isn’t entirely sure why the run was originally chosen to take place at twilight. It was already a twilight run when he became chairman in 2005, and he liked it that way. “It’s a classic Clifton experience and is sure to be a great time,” Anderson said. The 17th Annual Clifton Caboose Twilight Run is May 17 at 6 p.m., and features a 5K and a one-mile fun run.

Reverend C. L. Bryant to Speak at Republican Women of Clifton April Meeting
Reverend C. L. Bryant, former president of the Garland, Texas chapter of the NAACP and noted speaker will speak at the April 16 meeting of the Republican Women of Clifton (RWC). Rev. Bryant is a conservative activist and frequent commentator on Fox News. He dazzled audiences at Glenn Beck’s FreePAC event when he encouraged thousands in the audience to "defend the republic" while also tackling the enslavement of government dependency. Rev. Bryant is a radio and television host and creator of the independent film, The Runaway Slave, a movie about the race to free the Black community from the slavery of tyranny and progressive policies.
